How to Group Events Using Series in The Events Calendar

Prev Next

Introduction

Managing multiple related events can quickly become complicated if each event is listed individually. If you are using The Events Calendar plugin for WordPress, the Series feature allows you to group related events together, making them easier to organise and navigate for both site administrators and visitors.

What Are Event Series?

An Event Series allows you to group individual events that belong to the same show or production taking place on multiple dates.

This is especially useful for events such as:

  • Concerts with performances on different dates

  • Shows that run during a weekend with several sessions per day

  • Touring productions with multiple performances in the same venue (for example, events like Disney On Ice)

Each event still has its own date, time, and details, but they are all connected under one shared series.

Why Use Event Series?

Grouping events into a series offers several advantages:

  • Visitors can easily see all available dates for the same show

  • Events stay organised in the WordPress dashboard

  • Related performances are automatically connected

  • Users can quickly find the next available performance

  • Instead of searching for individual events, visitors can simply view all dates belonging to the same production.

StepsHow to modify event information

Before adding events, you first need to create the series.

  1. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Events → Series.
    Click Add New Series.

  2. Enter the name of the show or production.

  3. Add a description if needed.

  4. Publish the series.

Once created, the series will be available when creating or editing events.

How To Add Events to the Series?

You can add both new events and existing events to a series.

When creating a new event

  1. Go to Events → Add New.

  2. Create the event as usual (title, date, location, etc.).

  3. In the Series section, select the series you created.

  4. Publish the event.

When editing an existing event

  1. Go to Events → All Events.

  2. Open the event you want to edit.

  3. Select the appropriate Series.

  4. Update the event.

The event will now be part of that series.

Summary

The Series feature in The Events Calendar plugin is a simple but powerful way to organise shows that have multiple performances. By grouping events into a series, visitors can easily see all available dates for the same production.

When combined with automated imports from Ticketmaster and custom templates that present series in list and grid views, this approach keeps concerts and shows with multiple performances organised, easy to browse, and more user-friendly for visitors.
