Sick Leave Policy
1. Purpose
This Sick Leave Policy is established to provide guidelines and procedures for employees who need to take sick leave due to illness or injury. The policy aims to strike a balance between supporting employee well-being and maintaining the operational needs of the organisation.
2. Sick Leave Entitlement
Full-time employees are entitled to up to 2 consecutive days of paid sick leave per instance without the requirement for a doctor's note.
3. Doctor's Note Requirement
If an employee's illness or injury requires more than 2 consecutive days of sick leave (7 days in the United Kingdom due to different regulations there), a doctor's note or medical certificate must be provided to the HR department by the 3rd day of not returning to work - the note or certificate should detail the requirement of the employee to not resume normal duties and the date until which the employee may be required to remain on sick leave. Failure to provide a doctor's note within the specified timeframe may result in the sick leave being treated as unexcused.
4. Notification Procedure
Employees are required to notify their immediate supervisor or manager as soon as possible, preferably before the start of their work shift, if they are unable to work due to illness or injury. If the sick leave is expected to extend beyond 2 days, the employee should inform their supervisor of this at the earliest opportunity.
5. Confidentiality
All medical information provided by employees, including doctor's notes and medical certificates, will be treated as confidential and will only be shared with individuals who have a legitimate need to know, such as HR personnel and management.
6. Accrual of Sick Leave
Sick leave will not accrue from instance to instance. Each instance of sick leave is treated separately, and the entitlement resets after each instance.
7. Verification and Approval
Supervisors or managers have the right to request additional verification or documentation if they have reason to believe that an employee is abusing the sick leave policy. Any misuse of sick leave may be subject to disciplinary action.
8. Government Regulations
This policy is consistent with all the laws of your jurisdiction
9. Compliance
All employees are expected to comply with this policy. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
10. Tracking of Sick Leave
All sick leave will be tracked in our HR tracking tool per individual, in order to keep an accurate record of the amount of sick leave per annum.
11. Review and Updates
This policy may be subject to periodic review and updates as necessary to comply with applicable laws and regulations or to better meet the needs of the organisation.
